From a simple plot to a spa hotel near the beach

At the end of the 19th century, sea bathing became increasingly popular, attracting a middle class looking for relaxation and sea air. Located a stone's throw from Sillon Beach, one of the most beautiful shores of the Falkland Islands coast, the Grand Hotel de Courtoisville stands as a symbol of this rapidly changing era.

1882

It all started in 1882, when Mr. Courtois, a Saint-Malouin military intendant, decided to sell land he owned near Sillon Beach. At the time, it was only a virgin space, but in the spirit of the Société de la Baie de Saint-Malo Parame, which bought it, the future of the city as a tourist destination was promising.

The objective is clear: to transform these lands into an exceptional seaside resort popular with tourists from Paris, Normandy and northern France, in search of the pleasures of the sea.

1888

In 1888, the company went into liquidation and sold this land, which was still virgin. He passes from hand to hand, seemingly waiting for his destiny.

1902

It was only in 1902 that Mr. Forest bought it and that the story took a decisive turn. He sees in these few hectares the opportunity to build an exceptional hotel.

1906

His vision became a reality in 1906 with the birth of the Grand Hotel de Courtoisville, a name chosen in reference to the original owner.

Charm & Modernity, Art Deco Revisited

In November 2022, the metamorphosis of the Grand Hotel de Courtoisville began under the direction of the interior architect Hervé Riaudet, in collaboration with his firm Méridien Zéro and the Gouronnec Allaire agency, in charge of structural works. The renovation project, ambitious and respectful of the history of the place, aims to restore the hotel to its former brilliance while integrating the standards of comfort and elegance of the 21st century. The Art Deco style, reinterpreted in a contemporary way, is invited into every detail of the decoration, recalling the golden age of sea bathing in Saint-Malo.
